New Carers’ Centre Capital Appeal
We need your help to raise funds for our new Carers Centre
The total budget for the project is £1m. In addition to donations and grants to help us purchase the necessary building and run services, we also need in-kind support such as equipment, building services, technical expertise and valuable volunteering time, to help with the more practical tasks.
You may also know someone who can either make a contribution in their own right or help us to raise funds from other sources.
Why a new Carer’s Centre is needed
Harrow does not currently have a carers’ centre or any specific place for carers to go to receive the support they need. Carers find it difficult enough to manage their daily lives and when they need information and support it is hard to access because no single place is able to provide it. This means that carers spend a lot of time trying to navigate the services and systems in the area and often give up in despair.
To meet this need, Harrow Carers has acquired a New Carers’ Centre which will provide a wide range of services in an accessible, well equipped and culturally sensitive environment. The building in North Harrow is close to the tube station and within 5 minutes reach of central Harrow.
Why help us?
At some point in our lives, all of us are likely to need care and support from family and friends or have to provide support as carers. As we get older the level of demand for care is increasing and the economic factors are making it harder for people to get the help and support they need. By supporting our new carers centre, you will be enabling carers to maintain their caring roles and helping to provide better services for people in the community, many of whom may be your friends, relatives, customers and associates.

What we need to raise money for
The new Carers’ Centre requires adapting and equipping to provide the right sort of environment for carers. This includes:
- Creating and equipping rooms to provide confidential counselling and advice.
- Reconfiguring the internal building to provide an open space to hold information sessions and consultations to listen to carers.
- Audio Visual equipment for information presentations and for children’s activities such as films, games and educational sessions.
- Fitting out a computer suite for carers to have access to the internet and learn basic office software for writing letters and budgeting.
- Creating facilities with access for disabled people including wheelchair users.
- Converting some upstairs space back into a flat to accommodate our overseas volunteers.
THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS:

The flat may also be used for overnight breaks and respite for children with disabilities and their families after school and during holidays.
There will be free space for:
- Group meetings of parent carers to share experiences and seek support and games and aids for children with disabilities to engage in learning and development activities in a safe and accessible environment e.g. Wii games, computers, sensory aids, music, television/films, soft toys, books and reading aids, coordination games, wet play, crafts and other creative activities.
- Music making equipment and instruments for children with disabilities to use in music therapy and leisure sessions during breaks at the centre.
